William Tell

William Tell lived in Switzerland in the early 14th century. He was known well for his skill in archery. According to a legend, William Tell was 'compelled' by an Austrian governor to shoot an apple from atop the head of his only son. He did this, thankfully, without mishap.

William Tell is the subject of Guillaume Tell, an opera by Gioacchino Rossini.
