The Killing Fields

The Killing Fields (1984) is an award-winning dramatic film about the Cambodian aftermath of the Vietnam War, based on the experience of real-life journalist Sydney Schanberg. The film, which won three Academy Awards, was directed by Roland Joffé and stars Sam Waterston, Haing S. Ngor, John Malkovich, and Julian Sands. Ngor won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role; cinematographer Chris Menges won an Academy Award for Best Cinematography. The film also won for Best Editing. The soundtrack is by Mike Oldfield.

The killing fields refers to the mass killing sites used by the Khmer Rouge to exterminate and bury victims of the Cambodian holocaust.
