Production
The show was first aired in the U.S. on January 17 2003. However, some episodes in the first season had been broadcast earlier in the UK, during 2002. The show is popular in the United States, but also in many other countries and regions of the world including United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Europe, New Zealand and Asia. It is the second highest rated series on Disney Channel, behind frontrunner Lizzie McGuire. However, the show is ending in 2006 after becoming Disney's longest running show with 4 seasons, the first series to achieve this feat.[1]
All in all, That's So Raven will have 100 episodes, which is more than the usual 65 episodes of Disney shows. The only other Disney shows to achieve this was Dumbo's Circus (which aired 120 episodes on Disney Channel between 1985-1995), DuckTales, and recently, Kim Possible (announced November 2005).
Raven has recently filmed production on the last episode of That's So Raven on January 18. The episode will air this summer.
Story structure
Each episode is broken up into different segments as Raven or other characters deal with situations. Raven is mostly the main focus of the story, and the episodes also focus on whatever visions she experiences. The visions usually involve whatever Raven is thinking about at that point in time, and after they happen, one of several things will happen: the vision will come true regardless of anything, Raven tries to stop it only to make it come true (a paradox), or the outcome is affected in some way.
There is some evidence of "Chuck Cunningham syndrome", such as the disappearance of Mr. Lawler, who provided comic relief in some early episodes but was removed for unknown reasons. There are characters that appeared at least once as an important role, but never returned. Also, as of season four, Raven's mother Tanya is out of the show, due to her quitting (see below).
For the fourth season, Raven became producer of her own show, helping out more for the creative ideas on That's So Raven. In the fourth season of That's So Raven, Raven, an aspiring fashion designer, achieves the dream of a lifetime when she begins working for world renowned (fictional) fashion designer Donna Cabonna (played by Anne-Marie Johnson of JAG and In Living Color fame). Also new for season 4, Raven gets a new room, designed by a makeover show. She shot most of the entire season in 2005 and is wrapping up in 2006. That's So Raven had started its 4th season on President's Day (February 20) with the episode Raven, Sydney, and the Man. Also on the fourth season, production was switched to the newly made That's So Productions and the show averaged 4.5 million viewers.
