Syprus

Overview

The Pentarchy of Syprus (in Portuguese, Pentarquia de Syprus) was an web-based micronation, founded on March 2003 by and Joreth Heldain, two long-date micronationalists. Over the course of months, other Brazilians applied for citizenship, until the nation ceased to exist, on September of the same year.

Territory

Syprus claimed for itself the territory macronationally belonging to the Republic of Cyprus. However, the Pentarchy was not any kind of separatist movement, as the Cypriot territory was only chosen to make the micronation experience more enjoyable for the citizens.

Government

The Pentarchy of Syprus, as the name states, was governed by a council of five elected representatives, the Supreme Council (Conselho Supremo), an institution that acumulated the powers normally delegated to the Legislative and Executive branches. The Judiciary branch was formed by the Council-nominated Supreme Magistrate (Supremo Juíz).

In the beggining, this system of government was efective. However, as activity increased on the nation, the Council -- mostly made of micronational newbies -- was not able to control Syprus. So, the Supreme Council was dissolved and Joreth Heldain assumed as Interin General Governor (Governante Geral Interino).

Syprus also had a number of ministeries, such as Culture (headed by Carlos Straczynski), Immigration and Communications.
