Stroud, England
Stroud is a district in Gloucestershire, situated in the Cotswolds in west England. The district is made up of a number of market towns and traditional villages. The largely unspoilt landscape, encircled by valleys, was the setting for the first part of Laurie Lee's autobiographical trilogy; Cider With Rosie. The area is currently home to the Prince Michael of Kent who lives at Nether Lypiatt Manor. Stroud train station was designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel.
Stroud, along with the surrounding area, is rich in Iron Age and Roman remnants and is of particular interest to archaeologists for its Neolithic burial grounds, of which there are over 100.
The district's bimonthly Farmers' Market, which was launched in 1999, was nominated for Farmers Market of the Year in 2001.
