The Snowdon Mountain Railway is a narrow gauge rack railway in Wales. It is the only rack railway in Britain, and travels for 8.5 miles (14 km) up the side of mount Snowdon to a height of 1085 metres (3560 feet).

The line was opened as a tourist railway in 1896, and has an unnusual track gauge of 31 1/2 inches (83 cm), and is operated by both steam and diesel locomotives.
