Shawano is a city located in Shawano County, Wisconsin. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 8,298. It is the county seat of Shawano County6.

Shawano is located at 44°46'36" North, 88°36'7" West (44.776612, -88.602054)1.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 15.6 km² (6.0 mi²). 15.5 km² (6.0 mi²) of it is land and 0.2 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.16% water.
Demographics
As of the census1 of 2000, there are 8,298 people, 3,432 households, and 2,076 families residing in the city. The population density is 536.7/km² (1,389.9/mi²). There are 3,587 housing units at an average density of 232.0/km² (600.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 89.03% White, 0.33% African American, 7.88% Native American, 0.54% Asian, 0.12% Pacific Islander, 0.55% from other races, and 1.54% from two or more races. 1.61% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 3,432 households out of which 29.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 45.8% are married couples living together, 11.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 39.5% are non-families. 34.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 18.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.27 and the average family size is 2.91.
