Secretary of State for India
The office of Secretary of State for India or India Secretary was created in 1858 when India was brought under direct British rule (British Raj). It was the cabinet office responsible for the government of India. In 1935, the name of the office was changed to Secretary of State for India and Burma. The office came to an end in 1947, when India became independent.
