Scotch egg

A Scotch egg is a snack food of British origin consisting of a hard-boiled egg, removed from its shell, wrapped in a sausage meat mixture, coated in breadcrumbs and deep-fried. It is eaten cold, typically with salad and pickles.

Large-scale caterers manufacture loaf-shaped Scotch eggs which are then cut into square slices, like sliced bread. Instead of the whole egg at the centre of a true Scotch egg, these loaves have a long cylindrical core that resembles a single extremely elongated egg, presumably made from the processed components of several real eggs.
