Radical centrism

Radical centrism can be defined as the ideology behind Radical centrist politics, as compared to the political philosophies of Conservatism and Liberalism. As a new movement, the radical center doesn't yet have a coherent sense of community, so it is difficult to provide a formal statement of radical centrism. A few of the early contenders are:
  • The New America Foundation, the largest radical centrist think tank in the U.S., has proposed maximizing citizen choice as the foundational principle.
  • Mark Satin, editor of the Radical Middle Newsletter, proposes:
    • maximize choices for every American (and for the U.S. as a whole) as much as possible;
    • gaurantee a fair start in life to every American;
    • maximize every American's human potential as much as possible
    • be of genuine help to everyone in the developing world
  • of RadicalCentrism.org, takes a more philisophical and less U.S.-centric view, by calling for a commitment to the ideals of:
    • Reality, in terms of absolute truth, relative knowledge, and complex value
    • Character, in the importanc of conscious moral choices
    • Community, as people who create and exchange of value for and with each other
    • Humility, in recognizing we all want to think we are good, even when we're not
