Pop rap
Pop rap is the merging of rap-style lyrics and hip-hop beats with potent melodic hooks, which are usually found in part of a standard pop-song structure. It usually has less aggression than street-level hip-hop, but pop-rappers began adding a bit more of a hardcore attitude to it in an effort to defuse the backlash over their accessibility. It's popluarity has held up since the mid or late '80s. Pop-rap artists and groups include Young M.C., Tone-Loc, Salt-N-Pepa, LL Cool J, DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince, M.C. Hammer, Montell Jordan, M.C. Lyte, and Queen Latifah.
