Plymouth Sound

Plymouth Sound, or just The Sound, is the main part of the bay of Plymouth in England.

It extends from the shore beneath Plymouth Hoe to the massive Plymouth Breakwater midway between Bovisand Bay and Cawsand Bay, which was built beginning in 1812 to protect anchored ships from the frequent southwestern storms.

Drake's Island is in the Sound, just south of the Millbay Docks.

Plymouth Sound is also the name of one of the local radio stations.
