- 732 - Battle of Tours: Near Poitiers, France, leader of the Franks Charles Martel and his men, defeat a large army of Moors, stopping the Muslims from spreading into Western Europe. The governor of Cordoba, Abd-ar-Rahman, is killed during the battle.
- 1845 - In Annapolis, Maryland, the Naval School (later renamed the United States Naval Academy) opens with 50 midshipmen students and seven professors.
- 1877 - Following the recovery of Lieutenant-Colonel George Armstrong Custer's body from where he fell during the Battle of Little Big Horn the previous year, Custer is given a funeral with full military honors and is laid to rest at the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York.

I am a cussin of Solphie in Middlesbrough. And it was very sad indeed as soon as my cussin. Has died on the 2nd April 1969 since she was. Aged between 12 to 13 year old, while she was a very good little girl that I loved, died, and it. Is a pitty that she has died, while I"m still her. Cussin, and then I still remember the same.
