Noel Edmonds

Noel Edmonds (born 22 December, 1948) is a popular British DJ and television presenter who made his name on BBC Radio 1 in the UK. Television series presented by him include:

  • Top of the Pops
  • Noel's House Party
  • Multi-coloured Swap Shop
  • Telly Addicts
  • A Christmas morning entertainment programme.

Edmonds began his broadcasting career with independent radio, and presented Radio 1's prestigious breakfast show from 1973 to 1978, gaining record audience figures. He achieved new heights of popularity when he transferred to television, hosting children's Saturday morning programmes. He later moved to a Saturday early evening slot. The nadir of his career came in 1986, when his Late Late Breakfast Show was cancelled by the BBC following an accident in which a viewer who had been selected to take part in a live stunt was killed during practice; the accident was apparently caused by lack of trained supervision.

Edmonds soon returned to television, and introduced the popular Mr. Blobby character and the fictional town of "Crinkley Bottom". He was later critical of Lancaster county council's handling of a proposed Crinkley Bottom theme park in Morecambe which failed to materialise. In 2003, he returned to radio, filling in as host of a BBC Radio 2 show.
