Malum prohibitum

Malum prohibitum (plural mala prohibita) is a Latin phrase used in law that means that an action is wrong only because it is prohibited, not because it is is naturally or intrinsically wrong. Things which are malum prohibitum are not considered to be inherently immoral or hurtful, but are nevertheless illegal. The opposite of malum prohibitum is malum in se.
