Long Beach Airport

Long Beach Municipal is very small compared with the dominant Los Angeles International Airport approximately 20 KM east, and will probably always remain a small airport due to anti-noise ordinances adopted to minimize noise in the residential neighborhoods near LGB. Environmentalists do not want the airport to expand, and environmentalists happen to have a very strong political voice in Southern California. FedEx and UPS maintain extensive operations out of LGB.
The Boeing Company (formerly McDonnell Douglas) maintains production facilities for their 717 commercial jetliner as well as the C-17 military transport jet; maintenance facilities for other Boeing aircraft (including the historic DC-9 and DC-10 aircraft) are also found at Long Beach Airport.
