Loci method

The loci method is used to memorize a list of things or a set of things. It is based on connecting a well-known location (e.g. one's nearby food store) and its individual components (e.g. shelves) with objects that are to be remembered.

A Greek poet Simonides is probably the first person known to ever use the loci method. Once he was at a banquet. The roof fell down. Afterwards, the relatives seeking to bury the bodies could not identify who was who. Simonides could remember the dining places where individual guests sat. He thus was able to identify them one by one.
