Illegal Logging

In many parts of the world, some governments and some government-associated business interests strip natural resources for personal gain, often by illegal logging.

Often, national parks and "protected areas" provide little impediment to people with power. Natural wildlife and their habitats are sytematically logged.

Timber is often transhipped through other countries to avoid superficial checks offered to make an outward appearance of control. Having been transhipped the precious timbers often are used for wasteful purposes in other countries.
