Hob Gadling
Fictional character from the The Sandman comic book by Neil Gaiman who refuses to die (in the 15th century) and so is granted eternal life by Death. He used to meet with Dream once a century in an inn, where they eventually become friends.
In the comic book about the story of Hob Gadling, we can see that people's conversations in the 15th century inn and 20th century pub happen to be the same (except for little modifications) which is clearly a way for Neil to tell us that nothing has really changed. Which is a motto that he repeats in the one but last issue of The Sandman with the latin phrase: Omnia mutantur, nihil interit (everything changes, yet nothing is truly lost).
