Heizei
Emperor Heizei (平城天皇) was the 51st imperial ruler of Japan.
Lived: 774-824
Ruled: 806-809
The year 809 saw the retirement of Heizei due to illness.
Shortly after the enthronement of Saga he (Saga)
was seriously ill and while he was recovering Heizei fomented a rebellion, which had to be put down by force and resulted in much bloodshed on both sides.
In 822 ex-emperor Heizei became a Buddhist monk and received an intiation from Kukai.
