HMS Astute (P447) is the first submarine of the Royal Navy to be named for the characteristic of shrewdness and discernment.

The first Astute was an Amphion-class (also known as the "A" class) submarine. Her keel was laid down by Vickers at Barrow-in-Furness. She was launched in 1944 and commissioned in 1945.

Astute was scrapped on October 1, 1970 at Dunston on Tyne.

The second Astute was HMS Astute (S119), the lead ship of her class of nuclear-powered attack submarines. She was laid down on January 31, 2001, and had not yet been launched in February of 2003.
