Guile
Guile is the GNU Project's implementation of the Scheme programming language. A major design goal was to make it easy to embed Guile in other applications, allowing those applications to provide Scheme as a scripting language.
It was envisiaged that Guile would allow an application to be scripted in multiple languages, by dynamically translating to Scheme, but until recently no translators existed.
Despite the enthusiasm of its users and developers, many novice programmers find Scheme intimidating. Guile, despite its many benefits, struggles for mainstream acceptance among GNU/Linux developers and the software world in general.
