Goshen, New York

Goshen is a village in Orange County, New York, of which it is the county seat. Goshen is located at latitude 41.401North, longitude: -74.324West, about 50 miles northwest of New York City, at an altitude of 439 feet. In 2000 Goshen's populartion was 5,676 people.

Sights in Goshen include Goshen Track racecourse and the Harness Racing Museum & Hall of Fame.

History

The village was settled in 1714, and incorporated in 1809. Noah Webster taught here in the 1780s. Goshen was the birthplace of jazz pianist Willie "The Lion" Smith. Goshen was formerly the site of the Hambletonian horse race. In 1950, Goshen had a population of 3,311 people.
