In central Gävle, there is every year a large Christmas goat made of straw on the city square. It has become a tradition (although certainly an unlawful tradition, and frowned upon by most) to burn the goat. Despite attempts at fireproofing and heavy supervision, only in rare cases has the goat survived into the new year.
