Franz Josef Strauß International Airport

Franz Josef Strauß International Airport (Strauß is often spelled Strauss in English) is the airport located near Munich, Germany. Hub for Lufthansa and Star Alliance partner airlines. It has the IATA Airport Code MUC.

As Lufthansa's home base at Frankfurt International Airport is operating at capacity limits, international destination with a very frequent schedule will generally be served through Munich Franz Josef Strauß airport as well as Frankfurt International. The airport was named after Franz Josef Strauß, a post WWII German politician.

Munich city center can be reached by public transport (S-Bahn) in 60min (45min travel time) 6Euro one way. Taxi 45-75min at 55Euro (unreliable during rush hours). Car rental for Munich downtown destinations is not recommended. Public transport in Munich is widely available and reliable.

Smaller towns Freising and Erding are in Taxi reach (15min, 18 Euros). The historic town of Freising is worth a stroll even on quick stopover (from 2 hours) (go by Taxi to Freising Marienplatz) if you don't want to miss a typical Bavarian city.

The following airlines serve Franz Josef Strauß International Airport:
