Formosa Province

Formosa Province is in northeastern Argentina, part of the Chaco Region. Its northeast end touches Asunción, Paraguay, and borders the provinces of Chaco and Salta to its south and west, respectively. The capital is Formosa.

Population: 398,413 (1991); 485,700 (2001)
Area: 72,066 km² (27,825 mile²)
Geographic coordinates: 24-26º N, 60-62º E

The native language of Pilagá is spoken in central and western Formosa.

History

On June 15, 1955, Formosa Territory became a province.
