Europe first
Europe first (sometimes known as Germany first) was the main strategic policy employed by the United States and Great Britain during World War II. It said that in the event of a two front war - one against Japan in the Pacific and another against Germany/Italy in Europe - that the proponderance of resources should be used to subdue Germany and Italy first. In the mean time, a holding action should be fought against the Japanese. This would slow or stop their expansion. However, costly offensive operations were to be avoided until after victory in Europe.
