Eudora Pro

Eudora is a widely used email client for the operating systems Microsoft Windows and Mac OS. It also supports several palmtop computing platforms, including Newton and the Palm OS. It was named after Eudora Welty, who was flattered by the reference. Eudora was developed by Steve Dorner in 1988 as a part of his studies at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Eudora was then acquired by Qualcomm in 1991.

It pioneered the concept of a folder list pane that was always present.

Originally distributed in both a Light (freeware) and Pro (commercial) product, it is now distributed with three modes: adware, payware (removes ads), and the classic "Light" mode.

The newest version of Eudora (6.0.1) has added support for Bayesian filtering of spam with a feature called SpamWatch.

Eudora has many excellent features. It has support for 'Stationery', that is a standard reply that is prepared ahead of time to a common question. It also has very nice filters, although it requires a programming mind to do some of the more advanced things possible with them. The fact that Eudora stores emails in text files, rather than in a database like Microsoft Outlook makes it easier to back up portions of your email without backing up the entire database.

Recently PC Magazine gave Eudora it's highest rating, along with Outlook and Bloomba.
