Covadonga

Covadonga is a village in northwestern Spain among the Picos de Europa mountains where Spanish Christians won a battle over the Muslim Moors around 718 and 725. This was the first victory of the Christians over the occupying Moors and had great symbolic significance. It is currently a Marian sanctuary. The Spanish Army has named several entities "Covadonga".
