The county of Swindon (briefly named the county of Thamesdown) is an administrative county of England, created by the Wiltshire (Borough of Thamesdown)(Structural Change) Order 1995.
It consists of the old Wiltshire district of Thamesdown, which covered not just the city of Swindon, but surrounding countryside and the towns of Wroughton and Highworth.
