Callmanager
Cisco Callmanager
Short CCM.
Call control instance.
Keeps track of all active VoIP network components (phones, gateways, conference bridges, transcoding resources, voiceboxes..), knows every phone's status, is the master-end of the SCCP - telling the skinny and MGCP controlled devices what to do.
Evaluates called numbers and activates events on gateway to recieve or send calls to a PSTN.
Theoretically a simple Windows 2000 service, but in reality getting very complex if you want to fix unusual problems. Wannabe successor of PBX-systems, which have developed decades of experience, thus, leading migrating IT-departments into real trouble with their endusers because of missing features etc.
Actual version CCM 4.0 coming up end of Feb 2004 - promising some really good features to ease the pain.
