Buick Skylark

The Buick Skylark is a passenger car produced by General Motors. The model was made in three production runs. In each production, the car design varied quite dramatically. This was due to changing technology, changing tastes, and new standards being implemented over the years. These ran through the model years: 1953-1954, 1961-1972, and 1987-1998.

1953-1954 Skylark

  • Introduced to mark Buick's 50th anniversary.
  • 322 CID V-8 engine

1961-1972 Skylark

  • Full size car (U.S. EPA standards)
  • 215, 300, 340, and 350 CID V-8 engines (depending on model year)
  • Later on this production run included the Grand Sport (GS) package, which made the Skylark into a muscle car.

1987-1998 Skylark

  • Compact car (U.S. EPA standards)
  • Built off of same N-body platform shared by Oldsmobile Calais (1987-1991)/Achieva(1992-1998)/Alero(1999-2002), and Pontiac Grand Am.
  • 2.5L I-4 "Tech4", 2.3L DOHC I-4 "Quad4", and 3.1L V-6 engines.
  • Rebadged as the Sommerset or Skylark-GS with V-6 option depending on model year.
  • Available as sedan or coupe, but coupe option discontinued in 199?
