Bodhivana Monastery

Bodhivana Monastery is a Buddhist monastery from the Theravada tradition, more specifically the Forest Sangha tradition.

Abbot

The current abbot of Bodhivana Monastery is Ajahn Kalyano. He was born in London in 1962. Ajahn Kalyano received his ordination in Thailand in 1985.

Location

Bodhivana is located at a scenic town in Waburton. The land on which the monastery is built used to be a monastery. It is about 90 minutes drive away from Melbourne, Australia.

The postal address of Bodhivana Monastery is:

Bodhivana Monastery 780 Woods Point Road East Warburton Victoria 3799 Australia

Activities

Anyone is welcome to visit the monastery. There is an alms-giving ceremony from 10.30 am to 12 pm every day. Occasionally, there will be Dhamma talk on evenings.

Since Bodhivana is a new monastery, there is still a lot of building work to be done. Once a month, there will be a Working Bee. Anyone is welcome to volunteer.

Laypeople can also stay at the monastery, whether to have a self-retreat, or to help out at the monastery. Food is provided by the alms-givers and there is no monetary charge whatsoever. Those who wish to stay there need to at least give a phone call to confirm their arrival and length of stay. Unfortunately, at present there are no facilities for women who wish to stay there.
