Biola, California

Biola is a town located in Fresno County, California. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 1,037.

Geography

Biola is located at 36°48'9" North, 120°1'8" West (36.802534, -120.019025)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.7 km² (0.6 mi²). 1.7 km² (0.6 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.

Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 1,037 people, 224 households, and 202 families residing in the town. The population density is 625.6/km² (1,612.5/mi²). There are 241 housing units at an average density of 145.4/km² (374.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 13.50% White, 0.10% Black or African American, 2.51% Native American, 5.59% Asian, 0.48% Pacific Islander, 74.64% from other races, and 3.18% from two or more races. 82.45% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 224 households out of which 55.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 68.3% are married couples living together, 15.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 9.4% are non-families. 8.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 4.63 and the average family size is 4.78.

In the town the population is spread out with 36.5% under the age of 18, 12.7% from 18 to 24, 27.9% from 25 to 44, 13.1% from 45 to 64, and 9.7% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 25 years. For every 100 females there are 108.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 106.3 males.

The median income for a household in the town is $32,667, and the median income for a family is $30,234. Males have a median income of $21,042 versus $14,464 for females. The per capita income for the town is $7,375. 25.9% of the population and 24.9% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 34.5% are under the age of 18 and 20.4% are 65 or older.
