Anik 1
Anik 1 was a Canadian geosynchronous satellite that was launched in 1972 by a delta rocket. Anik is an Inuit word that means 'little brother'.
It was launched by Telstat, a Canadian communications company. In 1973, it provided commercial broadcasting. This satellite gave the CBC the ability to reach the Canadian North for the first time. Anik 1 was the first national satellite television system in the world.
