Americium

Americium is a chemical element in the periodic table with the symbol Am and atomic number 95. All isotopes of this man-made element are radioactive. It belongs to the group of the actinides. It was named for the Americas, by analogy with Europium. One of the isotopes of Americium finds its way into the household. It is found in smoke detectors.
