Ludwig Anzengruber

Ludwig Anzengruber (November 19, 1839 - December 10, 1889) was an Austrian writer and poet. He was born and died in Vienna. His father was a civil servant.

Between 1860 and 1868, Anzengruber acted in the theatre. He became famous for his role in Der Pfarrer von Kirchfeld (The minister of Church Field). From 1871 he worked as a freelance writer and journalist.

Anzengruber was born at Vienna, 29th. November 1839 to a family of rural origin from Upper Austria. Because of lack of money he had to leave secondary school and began an apprenticeship as a bookseller. From 1860-1868 he was an actor for different companies touring the provinces. His play "Der Pfarrer von Kirchfeld" / "The parson of Kirchfeld" made him famous. Then Anzengruber was poet at the "Theater an der Wien" and later at the Volkstheater (both in Vienna). He died 10th. Dec. 1889 in Vienna.
