E. C. Bentley

E. C. Bentley (1875-1956), who is now best remembered as the inventor of the clerihew, was a popular English novelist and humorist of the early twentieth century.

Born in London in 1875, Bentley worked as a journalist on several newspapers, including the Daily Telegraph. His detective novel, Trent's Last Case (1913), was much praised, numbering Dorothy L. Sayers among its admirers. The success of the work inspired him, after only 23 years, to write a sequel, Trent's Own Case(1936). Several of his books have recently been reprinted by House of Stratus [1].

Bentley died in 1956.

Hi my name is Wanda Davidson I write seeking information on the authour EC Bentley it is believed he may be a relation. My great great Grandad Alfred Francis Bentley Church was an English Professor at Oxford. My great Aunt who lived well into her nineties once told me of author in the family who wrote a book called Trent's Last Case.

I have never been able to find out if this is true, some of the Church's came to Alaska from England during the gold rush. They ended up settling on Vancouver Island British Columbia. I myself am from Nanaimo British Columbia Canada and this is where this email has come.

My great Aunt was a local writer though not famous and myself I am a writer not published yet. I have a brother who's middle name is Bentley named after of course my great great grandad and his son of the same name whom would of been my great grandad.

Thank You for taking the time to read this email: Regards Wanda Davidson
